Learn to Viennese Waltz – Class 004 – Beginner Moves

We demonstrate three easy-to-follow moves for you to learn each week, including lead-and-follow instructions and timing. You will become more confident and proficient as you build up the number of moves you know.

Viennese Waltz comes from France in the mid 1500’s (the oldest of the ballroom dances). Danced to the music of Strauss, the quick and passionate flow epitomises this ‘old school’ Waltz. It is a classy dance with 1-2-3 timing, and limited figures to show off the spins and turns around the dance floor.

Viennese Waltz Basic Moves – Natural Turn, Natural Fleckerl, Natural Turn

LEVEL: Beginner
STYLE: Viennese Waltz
The usual rotation and technique should be used on the Natural Turn, keeping grounded to combat the fast swing and speed of the music. The Natural Fleckerl must remain as much on the spot as possible, avoid dancing on the toes and aim to develop the swivel and rotation through each of the steps. This combination is a good way to develop the Fleckerl turning right but this can also be taken from the Contra Check.
