How to Quickstep – Class 004 – Beginner Moves

We demonstrate three easy-to-follow moves for you to learn each week, including lead-and-follow instructions and timing. You will become more confident and proficient as you build up the number of moves you know.

An English dance to a quicker tempo, which is where it gets it’s name. Energetic and full of walks, runs, and turns taken from Foxtrot, along with hops, jumps and skips. Quickstep came about in the 1920’s using a combination of Foxtrot and Charleston moves with couples dancing together in syncopated time.

Quickstep Basic Moves – Progressive Chasse, Natural Spin Turn, Quarter Turn to Left, Quarter Turn to Right

LEVEL: Beginner
STYLE: Quickstep
The first and last figure in this variation is often known as the basic step, a forward or backward walk followed by a side close side action, Natural Spin Turn has more turn on the side close so this must be thought about and lead in good time, the Pivot and brush action is the same as that learnt in Waltz, counted over three slows but with the same emphasis on turn and not progression and with the lady’s feet remaining in contact with the floor during the brush. Quarter Turn Left is a type of collecting step, the man has a turn on his right heel with an arrest of the movement with his left foot. The lady having a more sudden lowering of the heel as she closes her feet.
